And the winner is…. Claudia Harrington!

The Sue Alexander Service and Encouragement Award is given to a deserving member of SCBWI that honor his/her service to SCBWI. This award is a great honor as it embodies to spirit of Sue Alexander who was dedicated to giving back to SCBWI.

This year’s award was presented by Edie Pagliasotti.

Below is the beautiful speech that Edie gave introducing the much deserving winner Claudia Harrington:

To present the Sue Alexander Service and Encouragement Award is a great privilege since it honors a volunteer who has given of themselves through dedicated service and constant encouragement to members of the Los Angeles regional chapter.

But to present the SASE to a dear friend, a comrade-in-arms, who is so deserving of this Award – why it is far more than a privilege, it is a celebration.

You have seen her at countless events: Writer’s Day, Critiquenic, Summer Conference, Illustrator’s Day, the Working Writer’s Retreat, hundreds of workshops. You have talked with her about your work-in-progress and heard her encouragement. You have listened to her guidance in plotting the trajectory of your idea from a first draft to a published novel. And, you have heard her say how privileged she was to be a “birth mother” to your “baby.” We have all gained from her insights and enthusiasm and certainly from her friendship. She is one of the most generous, loving people I know – a successful author who cheers on the success of others.

As madcap Co-Regional Advisors for ten years, we had a blast working alongside each other to make this region the best it could be. I am Ethel Mertz to her Lucy Ricardo and I always will be.

It is my great honor to present the Sue Alexander Service and Encouragement Award to Claudia Harrington. Come on up, Lucy!

Congratulations Claudia!
