Nikki Barthelmess’s debut YA novel, The Quiet You Carry, sold to Kelsy Thompson at Flux. The bookfollows 17-year-old Victoria, who, after she’s kicked out of her toxic family, must contend with a chaotic foster home, dodge prying eyes at school, hang onto her college dreams, and somehow protect the stepsister she left behind. Publication is scheduled for spring 2019.

 

Alexander Graham Bell Answers the Call, by Mary Ann Fraser, was awarded an Outstanding Merit award as a Bank Street College Best Books for 2018.

 

 

My Busy Green Garden, by Terry Pierce (illustrated by Carol Schwartz), is named on the CCBC Choices 2018 “best-of-the-year” list created annually by the librarians of the Cooperative Children’s Book Center.

 

 

Sherry Shahan has had her work appear in several places recently: YA short story “Child Daughter” in Dark Ink Press; YA short story “Other Daddies Aren’t Like This,” in Westward (UCLA Literary Journal); YA short story “Skin and Bones” in Fiction on the Web, Tuck Magazine, and Little Rose Magazine; Nonfiction article “Laundry Angel” in Salvation Army Magazine’s special “children’s edition.”
