Brown Sugar Babe by Charlotte Watson Sherman, illustrated by Akem, was called “soul food,” in a Kirkus review and featured in Black Nerd Problem, BNP Books for 2020: What We’re Reading, and the Here Wee Read blog’s 2020 Ultimate List of Diverse Children’s Books.

Karol Ruth Silverstein’s debut YA novel Cursed (Charlesbridge Teen) was named the 2020 Schneider Family Book Award winner in the teen book category. The story is loosely drawn from Karol’s own experience of getting sick as a young teen. “As a disabled person, winning the Schneider Family Book Award, which recognizes the artistic expression of the disability experience, was truly an honor and a dream come true,” Karol said.

Conscious Style Guide founder Karen Yin signed with Jennie Kendrick of Red Fox Literary in January 2020. An award-winning writer and editor, Karen also created the Editors of Color Database. Karen belongs to SCBWI and the Dramatists Guild, and graduated from The Children’s Book Academy. Find her at KarenYin.com.

Joan Bransfield Graham’s poem “Glazier” is featured in Lee Bennett Hopkins’ anthology Construction People, which debuts on March 17, 2020, published by WordSong.

Andrea J. Loney’s third picture book, Double Bass Blues, illustrated by Rudy Gutierrez and published by Penguin Random House Knopf, received three-starred reviews, was selected as a Best Picture Book of 2019 by the Chicago Public Library, and is a recipient of the 2020 Caldecott Honor Award.

Out of This World: The Surreal Art of Leonora Carrington by Michelle Markel, illustrated by Amanda Hall, is a 2020 CCBC Choice book, was chosen for ALA’s 2020 Rise: A Feminist Book Project, and was selected for the 2019 Society of Illustrators Original Art Show.
