“Ask an Editor” is a forum wherein SCBWI members submit questions that are answered as part of our quarterly Kite Tales blog.

Dear Christine – With all that’s going on in the world, should I be querying? Thanks.

—Lynn, Los Angeles

Dear Lynn – Query, just be sure to check the agency’s or publisher’s website first. If they are closed to submissions, it should state that.

The pandemic is affecting us all, but in different ways. Some people have more time; others have less (at-home schooling!). If an agent or publisher is open to submissions, send your query and it will be ready for them—whenever they are ready to review it.

Ensure you’re sending your best work. Many critique groups have moved from in-person meeting to virtual conferencing. Check SCBWI.org for lots of free content and opportunities to join critique groups in your area and beyond.
